George Strait hails from the great state of Texas, just south of San Antonio, where his father raised him along with his only brother John Jr., as his mother had left with his sister when he was attending the third grade. In his early life during high school, he played in a rock and roll band with some high school friends, but this did not last for very long. His taste in music turned towards country fairly quickly and he began focusing on artists like Hank Thompson, George Jones and Hank Williams to create his own style.

After a stint in the Army, and having received a degree in Agriculture from Texas State University, he quickly got back to music by joining a country band and playing local gigs around Texas. At one of the gigs, the bar owner was a previous country music player and had a few connections with MCA Records. The MCA executives were so impressed with him that they signed him almost immediately to a record deal in 1981. As a matter of fact, his initial touring band remains his backup band to this day.

He has had over 30 years of recording and live shows to add to his resume along with awards and accolades that country music stars of today are still dreaming of achieving. He has also done some acting with small roles in movies and guest appearances on television. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2006 and to this day shows no signs of slowing down.
