Los Angeles Clippers History

The Clippers first came into the league in 1970. They were actually one of three teams to join the NBA during the expansion that year. Initially, the team was based out of Buffalo, but it struggled there for various reasons. Most notable among the team's early mistakes was its inability to hold onto the proper personnel. Losing players like Moses Malone and Bob McAdoo are perfect examples of the mismanagement the team experienced.

Eventually, the team would move to San Diego and change its nickname to the Clippers. At first, the move seemed to pay dividends, as it would finally have its first winning season. This was nothing more than a mirage, though, as the next season and many more after would be on the wrong side of .500. Finally, the team was uprooted once more and relocated to Los Angeles.

The Clippers now had a natural rival in the Lakers. Using that team's success, the Clippers were able to draw more fans out to the games. While the team still struggled in the standings, it was showing improvement in the win/loss column. Finally, the team would make the playoffs during the 2005-06 season. The Clippers were on longer considered a walk over game by the rest of the league and it seemed that it had finally turned the corner on its way to becoming a true rival of the Lakers.

The team made several moves to improve upon its success the following season, but few of them seemed to work out. Instead of becoming a league power, the Clippers seemed to take a few steps backwards, despite having a solid team on paper. In 2009, the Clippers drafted Blake Griffin in the hopes of putting the team over hump. However, he would break his kneecap during the pre-season and the team was once again relegated to watching the playoffs from home. The 2010-11 showed a marked improvement, and big things are now expected of the Clippers in upcoming seasons.
