Milwaukee Bucks History

The Bucks have an honor that few other teams in the league can boast. The team still resides in the city in which it was founded. Entering the league in 1968, its timing could not have been better. The reason for this being that Lew Alcindor, better known as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, was about to wrap up his college career and go pro. The team that landed him was all but guaranteed instant success. The team that drew the lucky number was indeed the Milwaukee Bucks.

The acquisition of Alcindor shot this team right to contention. His impact was immediate, as the Bucks would finally head to the playoffs in 1970. However, being such a young team, inexperience took its toll and the Bucks made an early exit from the playoffs. That experience, plus the addition of Oscar Robinson, landed the Bucks back in the playoffs the following season. Learning from its mistakes, the team cruised through the post season, finishing the way every team dreams, by winning the championship.

The team would later trade its star player, but remained competitive for some time. Much of this success was due to the many players received in the Abdul-Jabbar trade. However, while making the playoffs, the Bucks would not repeat its championship season. This trend would continue for many years, as the Bucks always seem competitive, but lack that one true star to push them over the edge. As of the 2010-11 season, Milwaukee has yet to once again reach the NBA finals.
