Minnesota Twins History

The Twins moved to their new home in Minneapolis in 1961, when owner Calvin Griffith offered to move his team, the Washington D.C. Senators, to this new city. The Senators were a struggling ball club and Griffith probably wanted to get out of the highly competitive American League East Division. Since the move, the Twins have had many ups and downs, but have won 2 World Series titles.

When the move first occurred, the Twins were initially successful in their new city. They had baseball greats Jim Kaat, Rod Carew, and Harmon Killebrew in their lineup and they lead the team to the World Series in 1965. However, they would ultimately lose this series and the team wouldn't make it back for another two decades.

When the 1987 season rolled around, the Twins had a very talented lineup that included baseball great Kirby Puckett. They won their division, then the ALCS, and finally won the World Series giving the people of Minnesota a long awaited world championship. They went on to repeat this feat in 1991 by beating the Braves.
