One of the things must be understood outright about the Raiders is there would be no Raiders team as we know it today if it wasn't for Al Davis. Al Davis is the owner of the Raiders and has been since he bought a stake in the team in 1967 after his stint as commissioner of the AFL. Before then, he was the general manager and head coach of the Raiders since 1962. Once in power, the Raiders would take shape over the next decade.

Though the Raiders were competitive in the 1960's, their true golden age came in the 1970's and early 1980's. During this time, head coach John Madden aided this team to winning their first of three Super Bowl championships. However, at the end of the 1982 season, Davis moved the team to the Los Angeles Coliseum because the city of Oakland wouldn't help renovate the Raiders' stadium.

Once in Los Angeles, the Raiders rewarded the city by winning their third Super Bowl in 1983 thanks to players like Howie Long and running back Marcus Allen. However, their time in Los Angeles would be short lived as the franchise moved back to Oakland in 1995. After bringing the Raiders home, Davis's team went on to one more Super Bowl in 2003, but fell short of their fourth title being up ended by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
