Reba McEntire was born in 1955 into a family that immediately recognized her star power and future as a country musician. When she was just a child, she loved singing and performed frequently around her hometown in Oklahoma. In 1975, she was performing at a local rodeo and caught the attention of country singer Red Steagall. He helped her get her first record deal with Mercury Records and, although it was a step in the right direction, she knew she still had a long way to go.

After her brief stint at Mercury Records, Reba affiliated herself with MCA Nashville Records because they allowed her more creative control with regard to her music. She took the opportunity to honor her country roots rather than performing pop music. Once she signed to MCA, the hits started rolling out, starting with "Somebody Should Leave" and "How Blue."

In what seemed like no time at all, she had become one of the biggest stars in the country music industry but there was still a great deal more that she wanted to accomplish. She was a talented actress and started appearing in movies such as The Little Rascals, Charlotte's Web and Tremors . She starred in a sitcom after her own name for six years and then starred on Broadway as Annie in Annie Get Your Gun .
