The rollercoaster ride that is the history of the Redskins has seen this franchise go from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows and back up again. The Redskins were actually created in 1932 but did not join the NFL until 1937. When looking at the Redskins history, their successful periods came in two distinct eras of football. The first was in their inaugural seasons and the other occurred in the 1980's and early 1990's.

In 1937, the Redskins shocked the football world by winning the NFL Championship in their inaugural season. The Skins were able to win thanks to the forward pass style of their offense which centered on "Slinging" Sammy Baugh. Five years later, this team would again face the Bears in the NFL championship and win their second NFL title for the city of Washington. However, this would be last time for about 50 years this team would in a championship as they would enter what was known as the "the Dead Skin era."

This organization was revitalized in the 1980's after the Cowboys dynasty ended. Head coach Joe Gibbs rebuilt this franchise on the running game and clock control. The Skins won their first Super Bowl in 1982 on the backs of their great offensive line. This immense line was lovingly called "the Hogs" by Washington faithful as they loved to get down in the dirt and push opposing defenses off the ball. This line would stay intact over the next ten years and produce two more Super Bowl titles in 1987 and 1991.
