Boston Bruins History

The Boston Bruins originated in 1924 and were one of the six original teams to form the National Hockey League. Eddie Shore and company more than held their own, winning the championship for the first time in 1929. The Bruins would win two more titles with legend Eddie Shore, the last one coming during his last season with the team in 1941.

After Shore's departure, the team would struggle for the next two decades. However, the team would finally regain its winning ways when the year turned to 1960. This would mark the formation of one of the more physical teams Boston has ever seen, with the likes of Ken Hodge, Bobby Orr, and Phil Esposito leading the way. These players anchored a squad that would win two more championships for the city of Boston, in 1970 and 1972.

The team saw some rough years during the 1980s, as the NHL turned into a speed and finesse game. By the 1990s, management had adapted and the Bruins were once again a powerhouse team in the Eastern Conference. Expectations were high during the 2009-10 season, as the Bruins knocked off the third seed, Buffalo Sabres, and saw the Philadelphia Flyers in the second round. Boston jumped all over the Flyers early and held a 3-0 series lead, but never won another game. It was truly one of the most heartbreaking moments for all Bruins fans.
