The Dave Matthews Band, or DMB as that have become known to their fans, was founded by Dave Matthews in 1991 right in his hometown of Charlottesville, Virginia. By all reports, at no time did the band ever say that the name Dave Matthews Band should be what they call themselves. The name simply stuck and they never bothered to change it over the years.
