Mercury Records and Toby did not seem to fit once his career got going and he soon switched over to Polydor Records for his next album. Over the years, Toby realized that he and record executives did not always see eye to eye, so he started his own label in 2005 called "Show Dog Nashville".

His entire career spans many years and while not all of his songs have risen to the top of the charts, his fans know them all word-for-word. Toby Keith took his patriotism to a whole new level after 9.11 by releasing "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue" as a tribute to the patriotism he felt towards the U.S.A. and its people.
