Aerosmith History
Aerosmith was formed in 1970 by Steven Tyler, Joe Perry and Tommy Hamilton. Tyler, at the time, was a backup singer and drummer for another band but agreed to join the new band only if he was made the lead singer. Thus, the band everyone knows and loves was formed but not yet named although that only took a few brainstorming session to select the name that is synonymous with rock and roll music-Aerosmith.
After playing some minor gigs around the country, they found themselves in New York City where Clive Davis, the president of Columbia Records, had been invited out to see them play. The one issue was they were not slated to play the evening Davis was to attend at the club, so the band actually put up its own money to be featured on the play bill that evening. In 1972, they were signed to Columbia for their first record deal and shortly thereafter released their self-titled album Aerosmith.
From there, the world was taken by storm as the band continued over the years to put out one top selling album after another. In between recording studio albums, the band continued to tour over the years playing both in the U.S. and around the world.
