Eric Marlon Bishop, better known to the world as Jamie Foxx, was born in Terrell, Texas, in 1967. He was abandoned by his biological parents at birth and raised by his adoptive family. His grandmother insisted that he begin taking piano at the age of five and to this day he credits her with getting him started in music. Throughout high school, he continued his love of music by playing piano part time for his church and sang in a band with friends in school. He was an active participant in sports in school, playing both basketball and football, where he set a school record for passing for more than 1000 yards in a single season.
In 1989, while out with friends attending an open mic night at a local comedy club, he accepted a dare from his girlfriend to get up and tell jokes. Needless to say, this dare set him well on the path to exploring his comedic talents even further. In 1991, he went to Los Angeles to join the cast of the half hour sketch comedy show In Living Color, hosted by the now famous Wayans Brothers. After that and a recurring role on the sitcom Roc, he moved on to starring in how own sitcom that was titled The Jamie Foxx Show .
In 1992, he made his big screen debut with an appearance in the movie Toys and continued on to playing a football player in Any Given Sunday . Along with many other movie and television appearances, he has also excelled in the music world.
