Other Cincinnati Teams
While professional sports will always be a major crowd pleaser, the collegiate sports circuits provide an excellent venue to watch quality action while visiting Cincinnati. The two major college programs that can be found in this town are the University of Cincinnati Bearcats and the Xavier University Musketeers. The Bearcats are an up and coming team that won their conference, the Big East in 2009 to go to their first BCS bowl game. The Musketeers are usually a perennial invitee of the NCAA tournament during March Madness.
While the college circuits are good, the only other professional team to play in Cincinnati is the Reds. The Reds are members of the MLB and play their home games at the Great American Ballpark. The Reds have had much more success throughout their history than the Bengals but this may be because the Reds are 100 year older than Bengals. The Reds are America's oldest surviving baseball franchise.

Cincinnati Bengals History
The Bengals as an organization and team have had many highs and lows since the franchise was started in 1968. They almost never existed at all because their late first owner, Paul Brown, did not want his team to play in the AFL. Because of an intense rivalry between the Bengals organization and the Browns, Brown wanted his team to be in the NFL in order to compete with the Browns. However, because the merger seemed like it was going to happen, he agreed to be an AFL franchise. However, Brown got his wish in 1970 when not only the merger happened but when the Browns were placed in the AFC Central Division putting the two teams in direct competition with each other.
While they have made the playoffs a total of nine times since 1970, their low points in the between years have been some of the lowest lows in league history. This is what led sports fans across the country to give them their popular name, the Bungles. Though this team went to two Super Bowls, one in 1981 and the other in 1988, they have yet to win the big game.
Since the start of the new millennium, the Bengals have been on an upswing thanks to Head Coach Marvin Lewis. Lewis was a former defensive coordinator for the Ravens on their Super Bowl winning team in 2000 before taking this job. Though he is a defensive style coach, the Bengal offense has been extremely prolific with big names like Chad Ochocinco, Cedric Benson, and Carson Palmer.
