Tennessee Titans History

The Tennessee Titans organization was actually founded in 1960 in Houston, Texas. They were originally called the Oilers and were based in this city from 1960 to 1998. The Oilers won championships in their first two years in the AFL, 1960 and 1961, but unfortunately for the organization, haven't won one since. However, the Oilers, and then later Titans, have had their time in the sun in the NFL.

The Oilers went through many good years in Houston but just never seemed to be able to get to the Super Bowl. Some of these former dynamic players for the Oilers included Warren Moon and Earl Campbell.

Because this team could never seem to win in Houston, owner Bud Adams moved the team to Nashville, Tennessee and renamed them the Titans in 1998. The newly formed Titans, under head coach Jeff Fisher, wasted no time making a splash as they won the AFC conference in 1999. They ultimately fell to the St. Louis Rams in the Super Bowl that year but they did deliver on getting through the playoffs. Later this team would be retooled with players like Vince Young and Chris Johnson and have gained a reputation as one of the teams to beat in the NFL.
