When the Chargers were founded in 1960 along with the rest of the original AFL teams, they chose sunny San Diego as their home. However, this team regularly made it to the playoffs but just couldn't seem to get to the big game.

After their shocking 1994 season in which the Stan Humphrey led the team to the Super Bowl, the Chargers would see their next golden age start in the mid 2000's. They had the league's best running back in LaDainian Tomlinson, who set the record for rushing touchdowns in a season and Shawne Merriman who made opposing players quiver when they dared enter his territory. Few teams in the league are able to boast the success that the Chargers have had post-2004.
